Winchester didn’t invent the polymer tipped hunting bullet, but they’re sure as heck determined to perfect it. Case in point: the Extreme Point, which this 270 Winchester cartridge uses to knock down deer over impressively long distances!

The Extreme Point’s signature feature is its abnormally large polymer tip. That thing is massive, and comprises 48% of the bullet’s frontal surface area – over twice as much as a conventional polymer tip. The smooth, sharp polymer spear tip excels at parting aside air molecules, and its ballistic profile only makes it more effective at retaining its velocity. The 130 grain 0.457 G1 ballistic coefficient projectile only rises 2.15” above the bore line before connecting with a target at 200 yards – at which range it still conserves over 2,000 ft lbs of kinetic energy!

It only makes sense that the Extreme Point’s very large tip has a very large base to match. It smashes into the underlying thin jacket rim and alloyed lead core on impact, thus commencing unusually fast energy transfer and terminal expansion. Winchester seats each Extreme Point at a consistent depth in a high-quality brass case, complete with a primer/powder combo that dishes out a predictable 3,060 fps muzzle velocity.
