Is the 308 Winchester the greatest hunting cartridge of all time? Who cares! It is a beloved cartridge by American hunters, and that is all we need to know to love it too.

And do you know what else American hunters love? Remington’s classic Core-Lokt soft point bullet, which has toppled more medium game critters than anyone could possibly guess since its introduction to the market in 1939.

The Core-Lokt provides terminal expansion in the same fashion as any other soft point: When its exposed lead core smashes into hide and through soft tissue, it deforms to widen the bullet and make it tumble around. The Core-Lokt’s signature feature is its tapered copper jacket, which is embedded within the core to ensure sufficient weight retention for effectually deep penetration.

This round’s 180 grain bullet reaches a muzzle velocity of 2,620 fps and exhibits a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.248. By our measure it will retain at least 1,500 ft lbs of energy until 207 yards and 1,000 ft lbs of energy until 333 yards, which makes it great for hunting elk and whitetail within those respective ranges.
