In 2012, a U.S. Army Commando sniper fired a Barrett M82A1 to neutralize an enemy combatant at 3,078.52 yards. The bullet that the sniper fired? The 750 grain A-MAX. Now, we’re not saying you should use this 50 BMG cartridge by Hornady for self-defense. But if you’re trying to witness the absolute best accuracy your own .50 cal rifle has to offer, then you’re looking at the ammunition you need.

This cartridge’s A-MAX is an absolute beast of aerodynamics. It features a polymer tip that balances the bullet’s center of pressure relative to its center of gravity to promote ideal in-flight stability. Hornady’s supremely concentric AMP jacket only further stabilizes the bullet, while its secant ogive profile and boat tail both act to reduce drag to the furthest degree possible.

The results speak for themselves. Once this 750gr projectile clears a 36” barrel at a rate of 2,820 fps, it achieves a G1 ballistic coefficient of 1.050. The 50 BMG is the only conventional small arms cartridge which can exceed a G1 BC of 1, which is how this round’s velocity manages to stay supersonic until an unthinkable 2,600 yards.

Hornady loads their preternatural A-MAX bullets with superior brass cases, match primers and premium propellant. Everything about each cartridge is carefully examined before it is packaged and shipped out of Hornady’s factory in Nebraska.
