When you shoot a varmint with a 300 AAC Blackout, it shouldn’t just black out. It should get torn into pieces so the buzzards have an easier time chewing it! Come to think of it, we’ve never actually seen a buzzard chew, but we’re getting off topic. The fact of the matter is Hornady BLACK rocks for small game hunting.

This cartridge features Hornady’s signature varmint bullet: the V-MAX. Its AMP jacket and swaged lead core keep it gyroscopically stable. Its sleek polymer tip conserves its velocity and momentum as it races downrange. Its tip also forces the V-MAX to burst into pieces following impact at a velocity of 1,600 fps or higher.

If fired from a 16” barrel (the length Hornady used to record this round’s 2,375 fps muzzle velocity), the lightweight 110 grain .30 cal 0.290 G1 BC V-MAX retains its capacity for explosive fragmentation at ranges up to 298 yards. If you zero in at that range with 1.5” high sights, your trajectory should only rise above the bore line by 9.54”!
