Let’s begin by stating the obvious: CCI’s Stinger series ammunition will do much more than “sting” varmints. It will kill them – quite thoroughly, in fact, because it is high-velocity 22 LR ammo and not some puny little bee.

This cartridge does its job with a 32 grain copper-plated hollow point projectile. That’s 20% lighter than average, hence the CPHP’s ability to attain 1,640 fps muzzle velocity. That’s not high velocity at all. That’s hyper velocity, and the reason why the CPHP boasts higher muzzle energy than most 32 Auto cartridges. (Granted, CCI recorded those data with a rifle-length test barrel of unspecified length, but the fact remains that Stinger loads are powerful.) The round’s bullet only makes matters worse for its target by undergoing rapid terminal expansion, which helps it transfer more of its energy to a small game animal rather than merely pass through it.
